Silence in Szczecin

The rally area is quiet and empty now. The silence is broken by the sounds of cranes, hammers, and other tools being used at disassembling of the rally stalls. Just like before the event, for safety reasons you can’t walk down the fabulous steps of Waly Chrobrego, as the main staged at the bottom of them is being packed into big trucks. There is no track of the pontoon bridge that used to connect the two banks of the river. The rafters of Ulanow left today just before noon. ‘Dar Mlodziezy’, ‘Lord Nelson’, ‘Cuauthemoc’, and other tall ships have been replaced by pleasure-boats and restaurant barges.
Cleaning services are collecting empty rubbish containers, guard railings are being removed. Almost everyone is working without uttering a word. The people walking along Waly Chrobrego are looking sadly at Lasztownia Harbour. ‘What a pity they have left. I hope they’ll be back soon’, says Zbigniew ,‘ I had never seen such a beautiful event before. There’s nothing else we are talking about. I bet one day, when I have grandkids, I will tell them that I was here when all those wonderful ships called at the port of Szczecin’.
