Friday Forecast

Today the Tall Ships’ Races are going at full speed, though it doesn’t refer to the ships. The harbours are already crowded, noisy and joyful. There is no time to be bored, as the organisers have prepared plenty of cultural and sailing events.
It is clear that the arriving vessels are the main point of the day. They have been calling at the port since the morning.
Obviously, the most important part of Friday schedule is the arrival of the tallest ships and their crews, including Polish ones Dar Mlodziezy and Fryderyk Chopin, as well as Mexican Cuauhtemoc, which was the first ship to have moored to Waly Chrobrego. The port is already full of life, and maritime atmosphere is in the air. You can’t miss it… feel it!
Another important event that we shall face today is an official greeting of the yacht Stary, which is coming back home after an over twelve-months-race. The main goal of the QNT Northwest Passage Jubilee Voyage 2006 was to follow the route leading from the Atlantic through Bering Strait to the Pacific, so called North-West Passage. It was to honour the 100th anniversary of Roald Amudsen’s achievement, who managed to pass the passage. It’s one of the most difficult and demanding routes in the world. The crew of s/y Stary has been the youngest one so far, with its average age of 25.
The crew consists of experienced sea dogs and travellers from Gliwice/Poland: Dominik Bac, Slawomir Skalmierski , Jacek Waclawski, Agnieszka Struzyk, Tomasz Szewczyk, and Konsanty Kulik, a film director. During their voyage a film was being made, with the use of various techniques (air and underwater shots) and animations. It’s titled “In search for a legend’. Its premiere show will take place in the Pionier Cinema, the oldest one in the World, on 5 August 2007 at 18.30.
The stages located in Jana z Kolna Str and at Lasztownia will be burning with life. From 16.00 on shanty lovers will be able to enjoy a concert by the best Polish shanty singers. In the evening, we warmly invite to a concert of the Philharmonic Orchestra of Szczecin ‘Music of Nations’, dedicated to all the crews. The organisers have remembered about the youngest wind and water lovers. Plays, games and shows are waiting for them on the stage located at the Custom Office.
If you don’t find the above events tempting, why don’t you show up at the cinema? We do welcome to Helios and Pionier. The former one offers a night movie marathon to those who love good films and have sense of humour: you’ll have a chance to watch Pirates of the Caribbean, all the three parts! Pionier is the host to Maritime Movies Review ‘Blue Pearls’. You will watch features films there(such as legendary ‘Rejs’ by Marek Piwowski), and enjoy documentaries produced by sea dogs, (Andrzej Radominski and others).
On top of this there are exhibitions, vernissages, theatre shows and many other attractions… It will be hot!!!
